The FastTrack PIC project board takes the FastTrack multipurpose pcb to the next level!

Whilst ensuring the input and output stages
on the FastTrack PIC pcb are identical in layout
to the original FastTrack multipurpose pcb;
space for further inputs & outputs and a
PIC device have been added to the board to
provide further control possibilities and
greater versatility.

The FastTrack PIC pcb may be easily adapted
with a single resistor to accept 8 pin PICAXE
or Genie-based microcontrollers. Alternatively,
cheaper “raw” microcontrollers (without a
pre-installed “bootstrapped” program)
may be used and programmed with an
appropriate programmer.

To utilise the additional i/o pins on the
microcontroller chip, the PIC project board
can be stacked and daisy-chained with a
FastTrack pcb. This provides space for additional
digital (or analogue) inputs and output(s)
to be connected (see bottom image to right).

Please Note: Before working with PICS, it is
generally felt learners need to have had prior
experience of working with inputs, processes
and outputs and gained an understanding of
discrete systems. This can be achieved by
using the FastTrack multipurpose pcb and
FastTrack’s ready-to-use starter projects.
The interfacing and further benefits of using PICS, can then be better understood.

Features and Benefits:

  • Provides an easy way to add greater control possibilities or differentiation to activities within the classroom.
  • Minimum of components required makes stock cheaper and circuits easier to manage in the class by teachers.
  • The PIC project board and FastTrack multipurpose PCB both operate from a 9v supply to allow interconnectivity. .
  • Sequential systems approach makes project circuits easier to follow and fault-find, as components are logically positioned.
  • Supplied ready drilled, tinned + legend + solder resist using quality FR4 board. This ensures better soldering and higher success rate.

Specification:

  • PCB: FR4 Board Approx (60 x 40) mm – Pre Drilled, Tinned + Legend
  • Offers 5 input/output pins with digital/analogue capability dependent on PIC used (accepts Genie, 12F629, 12F675, PICAXE 08 and 08M devices – Note extra IK resistor required.). One output is transistor buffered, but for additional output buffering or input capability, the board may be simply “stacked ” with another FastTrack pcb. PIC device NOT supplied.
  • Strain relief holes for switch and battery
  • Pre-drilled mounting holes used to locate board in project housings or for stacking with FastTrack PCB.
  • All circuits are powered by an external 9v supply and internal 5.1 volt zener diode.
(Lower Current Zinc Carbide Battery 9v recommended – not supplied)
  • Name box allows user-identification of circuit boards to avoid mix-ups when storing, or when in use.
